These are selected quoted option from local Cairns company Expressway, Andrew Kelman's best quote in China as well as adapting existing Reef Terminal Check-in networked signage to the retail shop.
All quotes require some work by electrician to mount panels and/or provide electrical/data cabling additional to the quotes shown below.
Main content assumed are videos as these are most dynamic.
Option 1 - Expressway LED P2.6
Dimensions of this sign is approximately 4000mm by 2000mm. The overall pixels across the width of the screen is 1600px (a high res video is 1920). Each pixel is 2.6mm. The management software running the panel can be a server based unit or a desktop based installation allowing you to control the content on the screen locally or remotely. The screen is made up of a matrix of smaller 160x160mm panels. Each panel is relatively easy to replace and Expressway keeps spares. The sign is not fitted on the wall but on a stand flush to the wall. Thickness of panel is around 150mm.
This is the recommended option from Matt at Expressway Signs. It is the most expensive of his 4 options as this type of panel produces a great deal less heat and each panel is secured better.
I would say that this is not the right choice for a small retail shop. The screen that i was shown in their workshop had 10mm pixels and much too coarse for videos at any distance. It still allowed me to get an understanding of the options.
There are zero installations of any led screens with led pixel width less than 6mm in Cairns due to the cost of lesser diameter pixel led's. Nearly all indoor video wall installations are LCD panels. A screen of this size with a pixel/led diameter probably is reasonably quality when viewed from 10metres or more. In closer proximity, it is very coarse. We have attempted to show the pixelation in the picture.
You could not reasonably use the tool as a staff tour demo tool to play content on demand to show case trips. This is because uploading videos to the screen is very slow for larger content (all videos are large). The software does not allow you to use the video wall panels partially. All content is played at full screen meaning that you would have to step out of the shop to be able to view a trip video properly.
Availabilty: 8 weeks
Cost: $50k to $65k depending on LED technology. $65k for Expressway recommended option.
Option 2 - Expressway 4x3 LCD Panel matrix
Dimensions of this sign is approximately 4300mm by 1821mm. The overall pixels across the width of the screen is 7680px (a high res video is 1920). The software running the panel is cloud based allowing you to control the content on the screen locally or remotely. The screen is made up of a matrix 12 x 49" Q-Series Philips panels. Each panel can be popped out to be serviced/replaced. The panels are fitted directly on the wall onto a special frame.
LCD panels are the most common type of video wall installation especially into a small retail shop. Content can be played on the whole screen as one video or panels can be played individually. The downside is that the upload of videos is slow and not really designed for real-time interaction. Each time a new series of videos need to be changed, the existing content has to be cleared.
The 49" screens will not fit across our 4350mm wall. Each panel view area alone is 1077mm wide. Expressway will need to re-quote for 46" screens.
Each screen has a playing ratio of 16:9. This is a normal video ratio between width and height. A 4x3 matrix does not create a 16:9 ratio screen which means that all normal video content will be squashed in full screen mode.
The software is rented on a monthly basis ($495) which is expensive for one installation. If you are doing something nationwide, it becomes more viable even though the software functionality is limited.
Added advantage to this type of installation is that the software we installed for the Reef Terminal Check-in can be adapted to this screen extending functionality by allowing staff to interact and showcase directly with the one or all panels in near real-time. Multiple panels can run different content. This can be extended to consumer direct interaction with parts of the big screen. Considering that this is your only digital media in the shop, it will be important to be able to dynamically interact.
Panels are sourced and purchased in Australia so parts and replacement are available with short lead time.
Availabilty: 2-3 weeks
Cost: $50k plus $495 per month
Option 3 - Kelman 4x3 LCD Panel matrix
Dimensions of this sign is approximately 4072mm by 1716mm and probably the best fit in the shop. The overall pixels across the width of the screen is 7680px (a high res video is 1920). I understand that the software used would be locally installed without remote access. However, we can adapt Reef Terminal software to this configuration to extend remote access to the screens. The wall is made up of a matrix 12 x 46" Philips or Samsung panels. Each panel can be popped out to be serviced/replaced. The panels are fitted directly on the wall onto a special frame.
With adapted software, content can be played on the whole screen as one video or panels can be played individually allowing staff to interact and showcase directly with the one or all panels in near real-time. Multiple panels can run different content. This can be extended to consumer direct interaction with parts of the big screen. Considering that this is your only digital media in the shop, it will be important to be able to dynamically interact.
Each screen has a playing ratio of 16:9. This is a normal video ratio between width and height. A 4x3 matrix does not create a 16:9 ratio screen which means that all normal video content will be squashed in full screen mode or all content has to be specially prepared. Consider adding a row in matrix or remove a column to achieve 16:9
The adapted software is fully networked and each screen can be accessed from anywhere. The panels and all hardware is sourced from China which could be a concern when requiring spare parts. Consider purchasing spare panels.
Availabilty: 8 weeks
Cost: $21k (Australian) plus time/minimal hardware to adapt software
Option 4 - JB Hifi 4x4 Retail LCD Panel matrix
Dimensions of this sign is approximately 3352mm by 1924mm. The overall pixels across the width of the screen is 7680px. We would adapt Reef Terminal software to this configuration to extend remote access to the screens and extend functionality for in-store staff and consumers near real-time access to video wall content . The wall is made up of a matrix 4 x 75" Hisense retail panels mounted directly on the wall.
Content can be played on the whole screen as one video or panels can be played individually allowing staff to interact and showcase directly with the one or all panels in near real-time. Multiple panels can run different content. This can be extended to consumer direct interaction with parts of the big screen.
The video wall is 16:9 ratio in full screen mode and can play common video format without modification.
The adapted software is fully networked and each screen can be accessed from anywhere. The panels and all hardware is sourced locally in Cairns.
Availabilty: 2-3 weeks
Cost: Approx $13k plus player hardware/software.
Option 5 - 3x3 Commercial LCD Panel matrix
Dimensions of this sign is approximately 3334mm by 1824mm. The overall pixels across the width of the screen is 5760px.
We would adapt Reef Terminal software to this configuration to extend remote access to the screens and extend functionality for in-store staff and consumers near real-time access to video wall content .
The wall is made up of a matrix 9 x 49" Philips commercial panels mounted onto a special video wall framework..
Content can be played on the whole screen as one video. The video wall is 16:9 ratio in full screen mode and can play common video format without modification.
The adapted software is fully networked and each screen can be accessed from anywhere. The panels and all hardware is sourced in Australia.
With customisation to the software, content be played individually allowing staff to interact and showcase directly with the one or all panels in near real-time. This can be extended to consumer direct interaction with parts of the big screen.
Availabilty: 2-3 weeks
Cost: Approx $25k plus installation and cost of signage software.
